I feel like I probably don't even need to explain why I hate that these movies exist. But I'm going to rant anyway.
Confessions of a Shopaholic
To accurately present the absurdity of this plot, I will reverse the gender roles.
a. A woman whose life consists of something self-destructive that no straight men understand or enjoy: high fashion shopping b. accidentally gets a job in a powerful male-dominated industry (an investment bank circa two years ago or some such place), where
c. an extremely hunky British guy falls for her
becomes
a. A guy with a horrible sports gambling addiction
b. is accidentally hired by a top PR firm, even though he is nearly illiterate
c. and his boss, who is a beautiful topless Swedish woman his own age, decides to make a temple of his penis
He's Just Not That Into You
This book may have been necessary for the 60% of women who are willfully oblivious to the fact that they date total assholes. But the other 70% of women (they are an amorphous bunch) just used it to justify their own ludicrous behavior and assumptions. Back in 1997, when my college roommate openly complained that he wasn't receiving any email, our RA sent him a message that said simply, "Send: Receive." That is, how many woman attempted to apply the rules of this book to some guy they were dating without any regard for the fact that they were themselves breaking all of the same rules? 200,000? 5 million? More? Maybe he's just not that into you. Or maybe he just doesn't want to look like a fucking chump.
I thought we were past the days when all that women had to do to fill their role was have a vagina and show up. Or am I a chump for thinking so?

what a shock. a guy who hates chick flicks.
Well, I for one enjoyed your rant....or at least the male-equivalent synopsis for the plot of this horrible, horrible-looking movie. I hope the movie ends with the main character winding up in bankruptcy court.
Happy Valentines Day!
i actually enjoyed the rant as well--i laughed while reading it.
but the absurdity of a rant against absurd chick flicks was even more amusing to me. i couldn't resist.
(now feeling slightly guilty. the comment was not meant to be mean.)
